This article has been posted on numerous message boards and undergone several revisions through the years.
I first became aware of it when I joined CastleCops, and had the honour of being a (small) part of the same "staff" where I served in an non-security related forum. Tony's article is still as relevant today as it was seven years ago.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the nation of Haiti.
While situations like this bring out the best of humanity, (sadly) it also brings out the worst. This is a reminder to not let your heart override your brain.
If ou want to make a donation, please be sure who is getting your money. Do not blindly click email links; check any agencies that ask for money to make sure they are legit. The Red Cross is probably the safest route.

... and herein lies most of the problem I think. It is for this reason some have decided to label this "problem" as Climate Change instead; and I quoted "problem" because many are convinced there is no problem.
Calling the problem "Global Warming" may have been a mistake - one that will make it more difficult to bring skeptics on-board; one that might take a long time to overcome. Full post here
