Fire fighters from around the Wenatchee Valley, with help from
the Department of Natural Resources crews and two helicopters,
fought a two alarm grass fire this afternoon near the Colockum Road.
Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum says the blaze, estimated at
6:00 p.m. at 25 acres, was not immediately threatening any homes.
About 17 homes from Kingsberry Canyon east to the Tarpiscon Road
were put under a level two evacuation notice. The fire is believed to
have been started by a malfunctioning irrigation pump that shorted out.
Five strike teams of engines, a dozer and several overhead were sent to
assist Chelan County Fire District 1 and the Washington State Department
of Natural Resources with initial attack of a fire burning 20 miles southeast
of Wenatchee near Tarpiscan Creek.
This fire is contained as of 21:30, July 11, 2007.
