*** US Spammer Gets Two Years In Jail ***

NEW YORK, NY -- 11/02/2007
A 28-year-old man from the US state of New Jersey was jailed for more
than two years by a New York judge on Friday for his part in a spamming
operation that sent out millions of unsolicited emails.

Todd Moeller was sentenced to a 27-month term and fined more than
180,000 dollars after pleading guilty earlier this year to sending out
spam emails.

Moeller was caught in a sting operation after agreeing to send junk
email advertising an unspecified commercial product to around 1.2
million customers of Internet service provider America Online (AOL).

Moeller and co-defendant Adam Vitale, who also pleaded guilty and is
due to be sentenced on November 13, boasted that they were able to
send large volumes of spam in a way that concealed the email's true
source.

Moeller and Vitale said they had made tens
of thousands of dollars through their business.

Another US man was jailed for nine years in 2005 for violating anti-spam
laws, while last year a Texas college student who led a massive spam
email operation was fined more than 10 million dollars.
