*** Samantha Cools Gets 5th At BMX Worlds ***
Taiyuan, China -- 05/31/3008
Canadian woman seems set for Beijing Olympics.
Photo - Samantha (Sam) Cools, here racing earlier in the
season, finished fifth in a close race at the finals of the BMX
world championships in China on Saturday.
A strong finish and a spot of luck seems to have secured
an Olympic spot for Samantha (Sam) Cools of Alberta.
Cools finished fifth in the women's final at the BMX world
championships on Saturday in Taiyuan, China, taking
advantage of a mid-race spill by two French competitors.
World No. 1 Shanaze Reade, who had a spectacular start,
cruised to the victory for Great Britain, while Anne-Caroline
Chausson of France was second and Sarah Walker of New
Zealand third.
Jana Harakova of the Czech Republic, ranked third in
the world, took fourth in this race, just ahead of Cools.
Less than a metre separated third from fifth.
Cools leads an 11-member Canadian team into the championships.
The country has already secured one women's spot for the Beijing
Olympics, a position that almost certainly will go to the 22-year-old
Airdrie resident. _________________ BMX News Reporter, An Array Of People
