*** Strombergs, Reade Win BMX World Titles ***

Maris Strombergs of Latvia held off Steven Cisar of Altadena,
Calif., to win the men's BMX world championship on Saturday.

Cisar was the only American to win a medal Saturday, edging Sifiso
Nhlapo of South Africa for second place in the final. Donny Robinson
of Napa, Calif., was fourth in the men's final, while Jill Kintner of
Seattle finished sixth in the women's championship race.

Shanaze Reade of Great Britain won the women's world title, with
France's Ann-Caroline Chausson second and New Zealand's Sarah
Walker third.

Former world champion Kyle Bennett, who qualified earlier this month
to represent the U.S. in the Beijing Games, did not advance out of the
quarterfinals. Fellow Americans Danny Caluag and Randy Stumpfhauser
also were eliminated in the same quarterfinal heat as Bennett.

For the U.S. women, Arielle Martin, Kim Hayashi and
Stephanie Barragan were all ousted in the quarterfinals.
