Peninsula Indoor BMX - Winter '08-'09

Hello EveryOne.......

Last July, we learned that the BF Arena in Port Orchard and it's
associated property was becoming available for recreational use...
Both Jeff Klatman and Alan Mazuti made contacts with the current
owners, asking about bmx returning to the arena.... And I thank
both of them for their support and willingness to do some leg work
on this project....

Over the last ten days or so you may have read on "BMXtalk", or
heard about Peninsula Indoor re-opening for this winter..... Many
phone contacts were made and a sit-down meeting was held at the
arena Sunday, September 7.... After the Sunday Meeting, Alan posted
our high hopes of a return to the arena on "BMXtalk"; and got some
favorable responses...

The arena is much the same as many of you will remember it...
The current owners have taken out the cattle gate, and chutes in the
back corner where bmx staging was most often set up... Other than
that, the arena floor area remains as it was...

A new roof was installed on the back side of the arena so as the water
falls that ran down the back walls are no longer there in the rainy
season... There are some new fences to control the entrance to the
parking lot... There is now a set of playground equipment in front of
the sign-up area windows that I am sure the littler non-racing kids will
enjoy, as well as the youngest racers when they aren't on their
bikes.......

We have been told the parking lot will be clear as it was when we last
ran bmx at the arena... There has been changes to some doors that
some of you might notice... The horse stalls are still in place and will
remain an "off limits" area, as there may still be horses stabled there
at any time... The sign-up area remains as it was, and will look familiar
to those of you that raced at the arena in the past.... There have been
lighting improvements made, with some lights being replaced, and a
couple added...

Our bmx program will change in several ways from what it was before....
--- one build for a longer period of time
--- a number of races on basically the same track, with few or no changes
--- smaller crew, crew sheet needs to be full one hour before sign-up starts
--- when the crew list is full, everyone else is a paying customer that day
--- building crew will get a free weekend of racing that weekend
--- the tear-down crew will get a free weekend of racing for the weekend
we need to tear-down

ABA....
--- as you would expect, ABA is on board with us and seems eager to
see P.I. return to the fold
--- Peninsula was never dropped as a Sanctioned Track, and is ready to
go from the ABA side of things

A verbal agreement for bmx to rent the building for six
months has been reached... A lease is being prepared....

Thank you for your interest in seeing a regenerated winter program....

========================================

On a personal note... I'd like to thank Alan Mazuti for his extensive
involvement in reviving Peninsula Indoor BMX...
On a personal note... I'd like to thank Jeff Klatman for making
the contact that got us involved with the current owners again...
On a personal note... I'd like to thank Papa Louie for his support
and dedication in helping the revival of P.I. BMX...

...mike
