I'm not exactly sure what the problem was, but apparently it has been fixed. Every site/forum has issues, and hopefully that was ours for the year.

I know, but there is another makeshift forum up still. it used to be indianaimpreza.com directed you here, but now its a seperate entity. That is why i am asking that and I got a pm message that said we moved so I am just wondering.

Feign is it seems. I don't have a problem as long as it doesn't become a porn haven randomly in posts. I don't think we have any substantial moderation needs so I'm not sure it matters who is moderating it. We don't have spam problems or a need to lock threads or ban users. Whomever is running the server needs to be able to keep it up and running.

It seems the main issue last time was a lack of being able to export the forum. I don't think this problem is going away. We might as well make the move and get it over with at this point. If phpbb goes down we lose the data forever. We can always link back here or save the contents offline or create an archive site with the content.

Since the new site is actually up and running I think we might as well move. At least the new database can be backed up now (I assume? mySQL or something?).

I'm pretty good with ETL if we can get a file backup for this site. Last time this seemed not to be possible, but the offer still stands. Get me a data file of this site and access to the database on the new site and I may be able to map and translate the data.

There should be an import option in vbulletin to copy all the forums, posts and users from phpBB to vBulletin. At least you wouldn't loose much, if anything, and you get a much better forum program.

One thing is for sure about our group, nothing happens until someone just does it. Pat and I tried to convince everyone to move to I-club or a standalone forum for years, then Rizzo finally did it and we all moved. No one could make up their minds so Rizzo had to just make the call and we all followed. Now it seems Feign is doing the same thing. I'd like too see Rizzo get moderation authority over there as well as Dale, but we have to keep the tree huggin' to a minimum.

If we are migrating hosts, then we should do it if and only if we can migrate posts and user metadata.

If we cant figure out how to do that, then we shouldnt be moving IMO.
