Here I go again thinkin, some folks have expressed interest in having dedicated day or time to ride LHP backwards. This gives the rider a completely different trail to ride. The weekends are out due to the high traffic, but what if we post and designate one weekday (Wed.) every week to change the direction of the trail? Pro's and Con's please.

Great idea. A cow bell helps warn opposite traffic. I've got to have more cow bell.

Pros: Riding the trail backwards would be awesome.
Cons: There are too many morons out there that dont pay attention to anything, let alone a sign telling them to ride backwards one day. One day someone who did not read the sign will get seriously hurt by someone going backwards. Then it could get really hairy, especially if they sue the city, that could shut us down and i dont want carter to go the way of the TOE. all it would take is one person that didnt read the sign to get hurt.

So anyway, great idea but i think it will be too much of a liability to work.

There aren't really signs that say the trails are one way. Riding backwards is really fun. I have noticed at Wilderness that riders will either ring a bell or yell "rider" when rounding a corner. I have a bell on my bike. A lady I rode with had a ringer attached in the end of her handle bar and each time we rounded a corner she would ring it. PK vibes

I'm all for Backwards Wednesdays. Another way to add safety besides cowbells is if there's a group of riders, post 1 at the head of all the out and backs like Fingers, Big Mama's, etc.

Ive heard of other trails systems doing the same idea. If we make it a permenant thing we can put wooden signs out on the trail to let everyone know. If there is a sign on the fence in the parking lot, kiosk and along the trail It will work. We also gotta keep an eye on how it effects the trail itself. I LOVE riding that trail backwards and besides the third race of the Trail to Trail this year will be Backwards!! Twisted Evil

Sooo... when are we gonna jump down, turn around and pick a day to ride backwards? I like wednesdays myself, but thursdays are cool, too. Lets pick a date and go with it.

yeah we need to make this offical. If we put signs in the middle of the trail at the start or the (end) of the trail that you have to go around people will surely see it and after a couple weeks it will work out. Hell throwback thursday is cool with me but wacky wednesday is good
