Folks, please keep Murray Mcdonald ( sp ) in your prayers today. Cujo and I came upon him a little after 1PM today, looks like he took a major spill going into Sneaky snake. Some hikers found him within 5 minutes at the bottom, not breathing and started CPR. Fortunately one or maybe two of the initial folks that found him were nurses and Jeff Adams and another EMT showed up right after we did. Polk county paramedics, fire dept and sheriff's office responded within 10 or 15 minutes. As they took him out they did have a heartbeat and were talking to him, but he was not breathing on his own. He was medevac'd from the boat ramp.

Lets hope he makes a speedy and full recovery.

Loyd

great job to the folks who did CPR. Such a crucial step in an instance like this. We will be praying for him!

We just came up SnakeRidge when the paramedics took him down....it's always sad if an accident happens.
Thanks to all the "helping hands"!!!!!!
He will definitely be in our prayers and we do wish him a speedy and full recovery, as well.

Sad The sight definitely took the wind out of my sails. I hope that he pulls through this and has a full recovery. Please be careful when riding alone, and don't ride alone if possible. Let's all keep him in our prayers and hope for the best.

I was the third person there and got to talk to 911 operator while the nurse performed CPR it was pretty scary. I told her and her boyfriend they were welcome to hike on our bike trails any time, If they hadn't been there I wouldn't have known what to do. But I think I'll try to find someone to ride with from now on, and maybe take a CPR class at work. I hope he will be alright, and thanks again for the help out on the trail today.

I came upon the seen while riding alone. Needless to say I took myself back to the road and back to the trailhead. No more riding alone. Hope he recovers but it looked really bad. Best wishes to him and his family and thanks to the people who knew what to do.

Ditto here on the trained response folks and Mark SS stepping up to lend a hand. Spectacular job by all.

Been forever since I learned CPR and am not too certain I wouldn't do more damage than actually help. Somewhere around the house I have a practice mannequin and instructions, going to look for em.

While I am definitely going to exercise more caution on the next several rides, not sure it will change my overall penchant for riding alone. Even though I like group rides or hooking up with someone out on the trails, I tend to take the time when I can get it and usually bolt out to for a ride with little notice. This sport is a fairly risky one all in all and sometimes sh*t just happens often times when you least expect it.

Once more, hopping he makes a speedy recovery and thanks to everyone that lent a hand.

I ride alone 99% of the time. If I can find someone to ride with me I will, and if I can't, it won't stop me from riding. But i will ride more cautiously when I'm alone. The whole thing just kind of freaked me out. Does anyone know the guy that got hurt?

Sad I was told he has a C2 fracture and will be paralyzed from the neck down.

Ah hell, I was afraid of that with him not breathing and the fact they did not have to restrain him much.

I hate hearing stuff like this and I hope his C2 fracture is just leading to temporary swelling and he will regain full use of his body.

On the CPR note I think everyone should take a basic course atleast once in there life if not more.

For you guys who haven't taken it in a few years please be advised the new protocal is 30 chest compressions to 2 breaths, for 2 minutes before reassessing pulse and breathing.
The old way was 15 compressions to 2 breaths for a minute, but they found the survival rate was much better the new way.

Does anybody know him or how we can help him or his family? It could happen at any time to any of us. What can we do?

Thanks for that info Silentneko. Let's all hope his paralysis is temporary and he makes a full recovery. I'd like to visit him in the hospital when he gets a little better.

Not a religious guy here but he will definitely be in our thoughts. I hope it's just temporary due to swelling and makes it back 100%.
